13 years since East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami [Japan]
Today marks the 13th commemoration since the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami. This year, once again, we offer a moment of silence at 2:46 PM, the time when the disaster struck.
SEEDS Asia had the privilege of working alongside the local government, schools, community organisations, and residents in Kesennuma City from 2011 to March 2017.
Particularly in the field of education, we collaborated with the Kesennuma City Board of Education and its schools to contribute to the restoration and recovery of education after the disaster.
In 2016, about five years into our activities, we compiled a video summarising our efforts in “Innovation in Education for Sustainable Development and Disaster Risk Reduction in Kesennnuma.
We express our deep gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the community support linked with schools, witnessing a portion of the town’s recovery/reconstruction and the children’s growth process.
Reflecting on past disasters serves as a reminder that today is a day to contemplate how we live our lives, as it shapes the path towards the future ahead.
