Young Leader’s Capacity-Building for Future Governance in Dauin, Negros Oriental [Philippines]
From November 22 to 23, SEEDS Asia participated in the “Young Leader’s Capacity-Building for Future Governance” in Dauin, Negros Oriental, at the invitation of DepEd Tayo SDO Negros Oriental. This event was attended by 72 student representatives and 34 advisor teachers from the Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG) in Negros Oriental Division, aiming to equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary for future leadership.
Given the Philippines’ exposure to various disasters such as typhoons, earthquakes, floods, landslides, storm surges, etc., disaster risk reduction (DRR) is a crucial topic for future leaders. SEEDS Asia conducted brief lectures on the ‘Importance of DRR Education and 21 DRR Education Activities’ for SSLG advisors and ‘Importance of DRR Education and advocacy tools for DRR’ for SSLG representatives.
Furthermore, SSLG representatives and advisors engaged in hands-on activities like town watching, hazard mapping, family meetings on DRR, and the creation of DRR jingles and posters using training materials developed by the “Project for Capacity Building on Disaster Risk Reduction Education through Cooperation with Local Community in Cebu Province (2014-2017).”
