Courtesy visit to Visayas-PAGASA [Philippines]
On March 27, SEEDS Asia paid a courtesy visit to Visayas-PAGASA* Regional Services Division (VPRSD) to formally introduce our new project on “Strengthening and Promoting School-based Disaster Risk Reduction in Central Visayas, Philippines,” which is funded by JICA. The project wants to highlight Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) as an important component in DRR. Sir Alfredo Quiblat, Weather Service Chief, who supported our previous projects in Cebu Province, shared about the activities and partnerships of the VPRSD with LGUs and the academe.
The Philippines is one of the countries prone to disasters affected by the growing impacts of Climate Change such as typhoons, floods, and landslides. Through this project, SEEDS Asia aims to support and raise more awareness among learners and teachers to protect themselves from these potential events by promoting meteorological education and capacitate people on utilizing weather information. We are planning to collaborate further with meteorological experts and institutions, including PAGASA, to assist CCA activities at schools in the Philippines.
