Dr. Tadashi Okamoto, Attorney-at-law, joined SEEDS Asia as Technical Advisor
From 1st July, Dr. Tadashi Okamoto, Attorney-at-law, joined SEEDS Asia as a technical advisor (legal affairs) of SEEDS Asia.
A number of risks, such as hydro-meteorological disasters in Japan and elsewhere, political uncertainty in Asian countries, and the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, are all affecting various aspects of our daily lives. Recent policy analyses has shown that in dealing with these risks, a legal perspective is also essential for comprehensive post-disaster recovery assistance. Therefore, SEEDS Asia requested and appointed Dr. Tadashi Okamoto Esq. as a technical advisor for legal affairs. Mr. Okamoto has devoted himself to revising the laws related to disaster recovery, based on a database of more than 40,000 free legal consultations provided to people affected by the 2011 East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, and establishing a new discipline of “disaster recovery jurisprudence”. It is very encouraging for SEEDS Asia to learn from the valuable experience and knowledge of Dr. Okamoto, and to move forward for the recovery of disaster-affected areas in Japan and overseas, as well as promote disaster risk reduction in all areas.
In its 2030 plan, SEEDS Asia has aimed to develop more specialized and high-quality DRR projects from the perspective of humanitarian support, and has implemented a system to cooperate with prominent experts in various fields related to DRR since 2019. SEEDS Asia will continue in its efforts to support disaster victims and people facing risks with the multi-disciplinary participation of various experts and professionals.
Welcome to SEEDS Asia and thank you so much, Dr. Okamoto Esq.!
