Guest teacher at Nada Junior High School [Japan]
On 20th October, SEEDS Asia’s Executive Director Mitsuko Otsuyama was invited to the Nada Junior High School to make a lecture. The school’s social studies lesson for the day featured SEEDS Asia’s initiatives in sharing Kobe’s experiences with the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake to other Asian countries, in order to make individuals and communities more safer and disaster-resilient.
In the Q&A session, interesting questions from some students such as “How do you raise funds?”, “What language do you use to communicate with people in different countries in Asia?”, “What is the management structure in the school construction?” were asked, and others said “I was able to comprehend practical information to mitigate daily disaster risks. This lecture also taught me that my knowledge about Sustainable Development Goals is actually useful.” and “I am now more aware that being able to speak English will be important for me to work in different places of the world.”
SEEDS Asia truly hopes that these students will be able to lead future initiatives in disaster risk reduction, whichever career they may choose.
