Tamba City Study Tour for ADRC [Japan]
On 16th October, visiting researchers of Asian Disaster Reduction Center (ADRC) participated in Tamba City Study Tour. The researchers who are government officials of respective countries (India, Malaysia and Maldives) are engaged in their researches at ADRC office in Kobe for three months, but for the first time visited Tamba City on this day. The contents of the day were: local community leader’s talk about community development through forest management; site visit to restored areas after the disaster in August 2014; and talks by a local group who started their initiatives after the disaster. The participants proactively asked questions such as “Who built the sabo dams? How much is the cost for this kind of infrastructure?” and “What is the meaning of the ribbons tied to the trees in the forests? (pointing at the ribbons that show the boundary between community-owned and privately-owned lands)”.
