January 8, 2018 – SEEDS Asia gladly visited the Mayor’s Office in the City Hall of Toledo to have a meeting with the acting Mayor of Toledo, Hon. Antonio Yapha Jr. This meeting was to do a courtesy call of doing the second project of SEEDS Asia in the city where Talavera Elementary School is located. The agenda includes the introduction of SEEDS Asia, it’s project outline and to present School Disaster Resilience Assessment Survey conducted last July in three schools of Toledo City. The acting Mayor was also given a brief information about the previous project of SEEDS Asia on DRR Education which Talavera Elementary School was also one of the pilot schools. The discussion brought interest to Hon. Yapha who is willing to support the project due to the flood happened in some schools in the city just this month and aware that Philippines is prone to disaster all year round. The Mayor appreciated that there are Non-Profit Organization such as SEEDS Asia who are willing to assist the city in preparation to calamities and agreed to strengthen the school’s capability to become more resilient on this matter. Other attendees during the meeting were Engr. Alexander Dennis Abella, Local DRRM Officer of Toledo City and Mrs. Anna Liza Sardovia of Department of Education Toledo City Division who made a collaborative effort to make this meeting successful. Both of them are willing to extend their effort to promote the project for the benefit of Toledo City.
