Japan Study Visit [Bangladesh]
September 4th to 11th, SEEDS Asia conducted a Japan study visit inviting city officials, ward councilors, editors of media organizations, and DRR community leaders from Dhaka North City Corporation. The purpose of the visit was to learn how various stakeholders are working to make the city more resilient in Japan, particularly Kobe and Kyoto that experienced the devastating earthquake in 1995, and bring the learnings back to Dhaka to promote community based DRR in the city further. The participants visited Disaster Reduction and Human Renovation Institution, Kobe city government, Kobe fire department, Disaster prevention center in Kyoto, Kyoto fire department, local communities, and BOKOMI. Stories from those who experienced the earthquake reached the participants’ heart very strongly and the importance of DRR was far better understood by them. Each participants made their action plans on the last day with their experiences and learnings in Japan, which will be implemented in Dhaka.
