Launching of UDRI Assessment Report [Bangladesh]
February 16, SEEDS Asia and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) organized the launch of the UDRI (Urban Disaster Resilience Index) assessment report. The event was attended by the Mayor and CEO of DNCC, City Corporation officials, ward councilors, fire service officials, media, academia, NGOs, and community volunteers. Dr. Rajib Shaw, board chairman of SEEDS Asia, introduced UDRI and emphasized the importance of transporting the findings of the assessment into action by learning the good practices of other cities. Mayor Annisul Huq discussed how community based DRR has successfully been working in the Bangladeshi coastal areas, and also talked of urban DRR and risks the city faces, DNCC’s initiatives in infrastructure development, traffic management, and safety were also introduced.He said the role of ward councilors are crucial as leaders in DRR.
