promote the community-based disaster risk reduction [India]
In the Varanasi project. Five societies have been selected to promote the community-based disaster risk reduction (DRR). In July, they participated in the SEEDS Asia’s town-watching training where they examined vulnerable places in disasters and identified safe routes, places and timing to evacuate in their community.
On 11th September, the project team visited Swastik Gardeni and Rajiv Nagar to know their changes after the training. Both societies reported that they had collected donations and distributed food and waters to the flood-affected people. It shows to us that they dramatically have changed their consciousness and actions towards disaster risk management, compared to the occurrence of floods in 2013. It can be said that the training made a contribution to linkage between their altruistic mind and DRR.
