Continuous rain in Varanasi [India]
Varanasi city in India, which is famous about bathing in Ganges River, has been receiving continuous rain since 10th August. The rise of the river has been affecting the lives of people, who live near Sanmer Ghat area that is a low-lying vicinity.
Mr K. Patel`s two-story building contains his family home and shop, which face the Ganga River. He says he anxiously watches the rise of the river waters that has now covered the stairs which is the entry to his shop. ‘With my entrance closed for the past seven days I have lost many customers and my income has dropped drastically’, he explained. His family lives in the upper floors of the building and is safe from the floods at present. If the rain continues, the house will also be affected.
