Event for issuing Minami-Kesennuma Memorial Book [Tohoku/Japan]
On 6th March, a memorial event was held for issuing Minami-Kesennuma Memorial Book,
which had been made for more than one year.
In the area, most of records and photos were lost by tsunamis of the Great East Japan Earthquake.
Leaders from 17 administrative districts in the area established the steering
committee and discussed on making the book.
The committee asked photos and conducted a questionnaire survey
and workshops to those who lived in the area.
Finally, information gathered by those activities were compiled as the book.
Some people were impressed looking at a photo taken old days on the book.
A man who lived in the area told “Though, I lost my parents and house by the tsunami,
today I gain the 2nd family treasure. The first is my wife who was saved with me.
The second is this memorial book.” SEEDS Asia was given appreciation certificate from
the committee. At the last of the event, a committee member stated
“Mission of the committee completes today.
But we would like to consider something to make action for community recovery
of Minami-Kesennuma. We beg for SEEDS Asia to support continuously.”
Increase of their motivation for community recovery has been realized in the process of making this memorial book.
On the next day, SEEDS Asia visited the mayor to report progress of activities and ask continuous support by the city.
