Coordination meetings for the school-based DRR training in Bohol [Philippines]
From January 15th to 18th, SEEDS Asia had coordination meetings with DePed Bohol Division and Inabanga North Central Integrated School (INCIS) for the pilot implementation of the school-based disaster risk reduction (DRR) training program for school personnel in Central Visayas.
The school-based DRR training program is one of the expected outputs of the ongoing JICA-funded project, “Strengthening and Promoting School-based DRR in Central Visayas”. This program will be rolled out to schools in Central Visayas. Before expanding to schools in the region, a pilot-testing is planned at a selected “model school.” SEEDS Asia and the School Disaster Risk Reduction – Task Force chose INCIS in Bohol province as the model school. This marks the first time SEEDS Asia is conducting training in Bohol Island as part of its initiatives.
During this period, SEEDS Asia discussed contents and schedule of the training in preparation for its implementation with Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Bohol and INCIS.
Bohol is renowned for attractions such as the world’s smallest primate, the “Tarsier,” and the “Chocolate Hills,” which resemble chocolate snacks from around March to May. It is a popular tourist destination in the Philippines. However, Bohol Island has experienced significant disasters in the past decade, including the 2013 Bohol Earthquake and Typhoon Odette in 2021. Incorporating the experiences and lessons gained from such disasters in Bohol, SEEDS Asia aims to support the development of the training program for schools in Central Visayas.
