Tsunami drill video broadcasted nationwide [Myanmar]
Myanmar’s coastline is approximately 2,000 kilometers long and constantly faces high risks of tsunami. However, local children are often unaware of what a tsunami is or where to evacuate. To make them better prepared for tsunamis, there is a need to conduct disaster education sessions and simulation exercises. However, due to the long coastline, it could take considerable time to ensure everyone is made aware of the risks and are safe from a tsunami.
As a result, SEEDS Asia in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme and the Department of Disaster Management, developed a video that introduces the principles of evacuation, which also takes into consideration the risk of COVID-19 infection. The video is based on past tsunami evacuation drills and reflects advice by many people who made the video possible, including its editing, conduct of training, and dissemination.
SEEDS Asia sincerely thanks all who supported the making of the video, and hopes this will help strengthen school-based disaster risk reduction in Myanmar.
