Presentation on DRR at DepEd Regional VII【Philippines】
SEEDS Asia has conducted distribution of education supplies and provision of DRR
education in affected areas of the typhoon Hayan in Philippines with financial support by Japan Platform.
When SEEDS Asia visited the director of the DepEd (Department of Education) Regional VII
Office to explain this project, the director suggested to have a seminar for sharing
lessons on DRR education to all 19 superintendents of DepEd division offices in the region.
Therefore, on 24th March, the seminar was held with arrangement by the regional office.
In the seminar, firstly, post typhoon status was shared by the regional office.
Then, presentation on SEEDS Asia’s initial project in the northern part of Cebu,
mainstreaming disaster education in Philippines and international, and DRR
education experiences of SEEDS Asia, especially ones in Kesennuma,
was shared. It was found through the seminar that interests of participants about the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami was high.
Organizations which enable to transfer lessons from the East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami
and opportunities for transferring the lessons are not so much. SEEDS Asia is willing to be devoted in it in future.
