Visit to Hyogo Prefectural Himeji Commercial High School [Japan + Philippines]

On 7th December, SEEDS Asia’s members from the head office in Kobe and the Philippines office visited Himeji Prefectural Commercial High School.

At this school, there is a student club called the ‘Community Creation Club’ which consists of high-spirited students who think about and take action on what they should/can do to make their community better. SEEDS Asia are working with these students with the hope that they and the students at Inabanga North Central School, the partner model school of our project in the Philippines, will collaborate to engage in sustainable community development.

Since Nana Sugaya, Country Representative of SEEDS Asia’s Philippine office, is currently in Japan, she shared details about the Philippines, our project, and Inabanga North Central School. Upon hearing the explanation from Sugaya, the students actively asked questions that demonstrated their strong interest such as “Was Inabanga affected by the recent earthquakes in the Philippines? I have been more aware of news about the Philippines because now I feel more connected to them.” and “What was the most challenging cultural difference that you experienced in the Philippines?”

Mitsuko Otsuyama, Executive Director of SEEDS Asia, highlighted the importance of asking certain kinds of questions, the answers to which are not readily available and require collaborative discussions.
SEEDS Asia are hoping that some of these students will be able to visit Inabanga North Central School for fostering global citizenship skills across the young generation. We sincerely lookg forward to your support in making such a visit possible, so our future will be brighter!
