”Toba-kko” taking action outside school [Toba/Japan]
Last 17th January, at the “My Hometown” event, children from Toba Elementary School introduced their beloved town Toba to their peers from other parts of Japan and Asia in powerful English. And looks like their enthusiasm is spreading throughout the town!
Previously, they had an opportunity to make a presentation on the topic of “What we can do for Toba” to their Mayor. This time, the children had an opportunity to guide tourists and locals to the town’s attractions.
Clearly thinking the process through to address its challenges together and promoting their hometown, we believe the event could become a precious memory that the children will never forget. It will also be a rewarding experience for visitors to be welcomed and guided by local elementary schoolchildren. “Toba-kko” (children of Toba) are indeed well capacitated to explain things in English, so non-Japanese speaking visitors will be well served by them!
This experience will continue to strongly connect the children to their hometown, and also connect Toba to the future. We wish them best of luck!
