SDRR Taskforce Meeting [Philippines]
First meeting with the School Disaster Risk Reduction (SDRR) Taskforce in the Philippines!
On 3rd February, the first meeting for the members of the SDRR Taskforce was organized at Department of Education (DepEd) Region VII Office. The Taskforce will be playing a central role, serving as an advisory group for SEEDS Asia in the implementation of the newly launched “Project on the Strengthening and Promoting School-based Disaster Risk Reduction in Central Visayas, Philippines.”
This project aims to (1) combine the outputs of SEEDS Asia/Hyogo Prefectural Board of Education/DepEd’s previous two project on disaster education and management, and incorporate new aspects of passing on local disaster history to next generations and addressing current climate risk, and (2) develop a comprehensive training program for school personnel. It is hoped that this training program will eventually reach all schools in the region, and that a rollout will be stipulated in a regional plan for school-based disaster risk reduction. The SDRR Taskforce will be working closely with SEEDS Asia, and consists of highly trained DRR experts who have contributed to SEEDS Asia‘s previous initiatives in Cebu, Philippines. We are looking forward to having regular meetings and effectively carrying out action to make schools more resilient to disasters.
