Lecture delivered to the AXA Group [Japan]
On 22nd June, SEEDS Asia’s board member Dr. Yukihiko Oikawa (Associate Professor at Nara University of Education) and Executive Director Mitsuko Otsuyama were invited to speak at “AXA Week for Good” organized by the AXA Group as a training seminar for its employees. Dr. Oikawa discussed “A Collaborative Approach to Disaster Risk Reduction Management and Disaster Education by Schools, Communities and Corporations” and Ms. Otsuyama “What the 2019 Typhoon Hagibis Revealed for Us.”
After these presentations, a panel discussion was held to exchange ideas about “How can the 8,800 AXA employees in the country promote disaster risk reduction in their localities?” and “What is expected from an insurance company in the realm of risk reduction?”
Comments by the participants after the discussion included: “I understand the necessity of disaster risk reduction measures but it is another step further to think of them as our own concern and take action. This training enabled me to believe in taking small actions to start with” and “The discussion was very fruitful in terms of contributing to disaster risk reduction as individuals, and as an organization. The idea proposed in the discussion, to allow customers working on disaster preparedness to get their policy for less payments, was a good one.”
We appreciate the participants’ attention to the voices of people with personal experience of the East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, and the Typhoon Hagibis.
