Delivered lecture at online event of JICA Global Plaza [Japan+Philippines]
On 9th July, SEEDS Asia was invited by JICA Global Plaza to speak online about our projects on the theme “Disaster risk reduction bridges education practitioners in the Philippines and Japan: To sustainably protect the future of the children.”
SEEDS Asia has been partnering with the Philippines Department of Education to strengthen school-based disaster risk reduction (DRR) education and management since Typhoon Yolanda (internationally known as Haiyan) struck the country in 2013. Among the series of such initiatives, the grassroots technical cooperation projects supported by JICA are very unique with Japanese teachers who are members of the EARTH (a team that practices school DRR under the Hyogo Prefectural Board of Education) interacting with, giving advice to, and learning from, their counterpart teachers and officials in the education sector of the Philippines.
Along with the introduction of the projects, the seminar also covered issues such as attitudes of Filipino teachers/learners that might be interesting to Japanese, and how the education sector in Hyogo has thrived to implement and continue school DRR after the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake.
Participants included those who are educators themselves, and those interested in the Philippines, and it was truly encouraging to see how this seminar connected SEEDS Asia to such kind-hearted and passionate people from all over Japan. Thank you for watching, and to all those who made this possible, thank you for this great opportunity!
