Construction of rainwater harvesting system commenced [Bangladesh]
During the second year of our school-centered community DRR project in North Dhaka, Bangladesh, we are installing DRR infrastructure and providing DRR training to teachers at the Lalmatia Housing Society School and Collage, which is located in the southern part of Dhaka North City Corporation.
The most distinctive feature of the project’s DRR infrastructure is the rainwater harvesting system. It collects and treats rainwater so that it can be utilized for firefighting, aiming to simultaneously reduce fire risks. We are currently working on the catchment area of the roof of the school building and on the rainwater tank’s foundation.
Amid the spread of COVID-19, the construction work has proceeded with daily body temperature checks for the workers and other thorough infection control measures, also taking local regulations into careful consideration. As we implement various components of the project, we will ensure that safety of all concerned is our highest priority, in full consultation with the school and the construction company.
