Interview after Typhoon Ursula [Philippines]
Typhoon Ursula landed during the Christmas holidays and impacted Northern Cebu which is one of the project sites of SEEDS Asia. Upon knowing that one of the Pilot Schools, Daanbantayan Central Elementary School was damaged, a staff member of SEEDS Asia Cebu Office visited Daanbantayan and conducted an interview. The interview revealed difficulties and challenges of disaster risk reduction and management, but comments such as “materials provided for the disaster simulation exercises were very useful in an actual disaster” and “mitigation measures such as cutting tree branches and bringing out important documents before the arrival of the typhoon were done by the school” told us the effectiveness of disaster preparedness. Sincerely thank you, to the School Head and the School Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Coordinator of Daanbantayan Central Elementary School, for your kind cooperation to our interview despite right after being affected by the typhoon. We all hope the new year will come with safety and security to all those affected by the typhoon.
