MTGs with Pilot schools [Philippines]

On November 29, December 1,4,5,6 and 7– SEEDS Asia successfully completed another confirmation meetings with the pilot schools and SDRA (School Disaster Resilience Assessment) Survey Result Presentations in Bogo City, Naga City, Mandaue City, Cebu City, Carcar City and Toledo City. Consecutively, we received a full participation and commitment from the twelve nominated teachers of each Pilot Schools namely: City of Bogo Science and Arts Academy of Bogo City Division, Uling Elementary School of the City of Naga Division, Paknaan National High School of Mandaue City Division, Cebu City Central Elementary School of Cebu City Division, Carcar City Central Elementary School of Carcar City Division, and Talavera Elementary School of Toledo City Division, after hearing what are their roles and responsibility during the implementation of the Support Project on Promotion of School Disaster Risk Reduction and Management in Cebu Province. The barangay council who also attended the meeting particularly Hon. Editha Piasan of Barangay Poblacion 3 of Bogo City, Hon. Justino Dakay of Barangay Uling of Naga City, Hon. Malaquias Soco of Barangay Paknaan of Mandaue City and Hon. Nestor Mahinog of Barangay Talavera of Toledo City were very interested in the results of SDRA surveys which were discussed and urge themselves to collaborate with the Pilot Schools where they persist to improve the results in order to exceed their expectation of becoming a resilient Barangay and schools after the completion of the project, 3 years from now. They also shared their DRRM (Disaster Risk Reduction Management) plans and initiatives that can be aligned to the DRRM plans of the schools per Division. Another attendees were the local DRRM Officer Chief of each Division particularly Mr. Carmelito Cruz of the City of Naga, Mr. Felix Suico, of Mandaue City, Mr. Nagel Bañacia of Cebu City, Mr. Kim Lauron of Carcar City and Engr. Alexander Dennis Abella of Toledo City, who also presented the Local Government DRRM Plans of their cities and gave assurance of their willingness to guide, cooperate and assist the schools. Such plans include mangrove planting to prevent storm surge, bamboo planting along the rivers, budget allocation for school DRRM, stockpiling in school evacuation areas and regular safety inspections.
