The 4th Coordination Meeting implemented [Vietnam]
On May 31 Fri, 2013, it was carried out at Dinh Bo Linh primary school, one of DRR core schools. Commencement time was 7:30 a.m., however, Vietnamese teachers who are good at waking up so early morning enjoyed chattering with other teachers under the tree. 7 o’clock might not be early for them. The meeting room was located at the 1st floor of 3-story school building where offered cool atmosphere. 3-hour meeting could be finished without any sweat on face.
Reported and discussed issues in the meeting as follows:
１）Training of Teacher (TOT) to remained 141-school teachers in DaNang city:
Implementation duration is for about 20 days from end of July to beginning of August. 141 schools will be divided into 6 implementing teams, and 10 kinds of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) programs developed by 5 teacher-trainers from each team.
* Message from Participant: Collecting updated information such as class numbers from 141 schools must be related to effective implementation.
２）Review on the 1st and 2nd DRR class implementations:
Last November the 1st and this April the 2nd DRR class were carried at DRR core schools. The former needed modification on lesson content and method, however, the latter expressed qualified lesson and effective teaching method. It showed how much effort teachers took in order to gather appropriate information and update lesson plan. As a result, number of student’s participation at lesson increased a lot from some to most of them.
* Reaction of Participant: A round of applause from them was given to teachers who had carried out qualified lesson that students studied seriously in DRR classes.
３）Collection of opinions on DRR education sustainability:
Ongoing DRR education project will terminate this September. It sustainability is hoped by not only SEEDS Asia, but also participants. Furthermore, the necessity of its sustainability and serious figure of teachers who want to protect students from natural disaster could be seen.
*Desire from Participants: 2 teachers, 1 vice-principal from management-side and 1 teacher for implementation-side, will be hoped to attend in TOT for DRR education sustainability.
４）Comprehension on DRR Manual distribution:
Contents consist from 2 factors; measure against Typhoon/Flood frequently occurring in Vietnam and one against Earthquake recently seen in Quang Nam. It can be used as workbook so that family’s understanding degree on measure is clarified by .
Current project is to offer DRR education to school. However, students who study on DRR education at school cannot take feasible measure against disaster without any cooperation from their family. In order to cover this problem, DRR manual distribution to community was introduced and approved.
At present, concrete distribution ways are negotiating with school-side.

Only 3 months were left in the project. Positive attitude of education staff, BoET and teacher, for DRR education could be found every second through the meeting.
