In the 3-year-Varanasi project in collaboration with Banaras Hindu University (BHU), five climate schools (CS) was formed climate schools (CS) as the focal point of disaster risk reduction (DRR)/climate change (CC) education and five communities, which CSs are located, were selected to promote the community-based disaster risk reduction in the 1st phase. On 24 January 2017, we organised the Mid-term Workshop and Seminar to mark the commencement of the 2nd phase with these CS and the communities and welcomed 15 outreach schools, which newly would join in the project in the 2nd phase.
We invited Mr. Pulkit Khare, Chief of Development Officer (CDO) of Varanasi District. Thanks to Mr. Khare (CDO)’s arrangement, we could have inspiring lectures from the officers from firefighting services, education and health sectors to develop and disseminate the project’s impacts. We also could invite Dr J. P. Gupta, India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Lucknow. It was honourable that the statement of cooperation between SEEDS, IMD and BHU. All of these shows that the project has been growing up its network as well as capacities.
Dr. Rajib Shaw, Chairman of SEEDS Asia, sent an insightful and mindful message to the participant through his presentation on the missing link between science and people’s daily lives. The 2nd phase aims to challenge this missing link with CS, outreach schools, communities, governmental agencies and other stakeholders.
