training at climate schools (CS) [India]
The Varanasi project in collaboration with Banaras Hindu University has formed climate schools (CS) as the focal point of disaster risk reduction education/climate change education. The teachers of these CS are expected to lead their own students as well as neighbouring schools. Those teachers, who participated in the town-watch programme the SEEDS Asia provided in July, carried out the same training for their students by themselves in August.
On 10th September, the project team visited the Aryan International School and Central Hindu Boys School to find the students’ excellent understanding of disaster risk reduction (DRR). It was also clear that the training encouraged them to think that everyone could play a significant role in DRR and they could make a contribution. Such a change in their idea, in fact, led them to take an action to support the flood-affected people.
